Microsoft officially announced its new search engine's name BING last week. Putting on new clothes and some promising features to its' existing Live search, Microsoft is hoping to get in serious competition with Google. Wall street journal (WSJ) reporter Katherine says that " And, like Google, Bing can be used as a verb." Source
In my humble opinion, I think this is more than serious attempt to just create another search engine with a verb name.
Personally I am big fan of Google, GMail and other smaller products and add-ons that google offers. The fact that I am still on Blogger is a proof that I still am in love with Google. Please don't mind my appreciation for google, but on the other hand, I have loved Microsoft since eons, so I like to think it in a way that this is nothing but a competition between eternal love vs young blood love.
I would like to emphasis one point here - Google on the hand is an icon of creative thinking. Google wasn't a verb before but it has become one. Beat that!
On the other hand, personally I have been using Bing since last one week and to my surprise it really gives me right-on useful information on the very first try. And the company sponsored videos available to view on the website are just amazing. For a new user like me, I like to use the tools and help provided for starting to use for the first couple of times and then I am good to use it my own way. An additional feature called hover displays a short snippet of wht the contents of the page are and then as a user you can decide if you want this page result or not. So Bing can help you make you select the right result ! Isnt that cool? I think it is useful for a user like me who has to search atleast five times a day something or the other related to profession, sports, fun, games or anything for that matter. I would be more than happy to use Hover feature of Bing search results to see what results actually match to my need. Interestingly same goes for the video results as well.
As a conclusion who wins Google Vs Bing, I think Google isn't going away so soon. But the real winner at the present moment would be Microsoft since it was able to get so much attention to it's search engine and definitely some of the new users and existing google users will like to migrate to a newer option if they had one, which they previously didn't had. However, in the longer run, there seems to be a case of fierce case of evolved competition that Microsoft and Google will invest their team work and resources into and user's will decide what they like the most - The capability to search and stay creative or make informed decisions and explore new options.
A quick advice for the big Google fans (like me)- Google feels like family but Bing is here to stay as well. So try it and who knows you might like it, just like I did and I have decided to give Bing a whirl before I make up my mind for my search engine choices.
