Living in the oldest democracy known to the world gives me the benefit of experiencing a free society where different sections of the society exist together in harmony. Seeing the world and it's events with a broader eye and open mind, comes with the territory. Even though open mindedness is relatively young concept for most of people, but if you have it, it's nothing less than bliss.
As you know that I am spiritual kid and I very much want to keep myself like this. The scripture says that open, broad and clear state of mind can only be achieved if you are lucky to be conferred upon from the Lord and through years of dedicated meditation. Open mindedness and true understanding of what is really important in life and what matters - comes only from knowledge. Gaining this knowledge might come to me from Spirituality, to you it might come from experience or by reading an actual text book, but who cares for the source; what matters and what should uniquely matter is the knowledge which liberates our mind, heart and soul from misery and ignorance.
I heard this quote from someone that "Ignorance is bliss". Lately I have been through so much, I couldn't have agreed more to this at this moment in time and life. I wish I didn't know so much of what is going around, which is exploding my head. However, for some people ignorance is bliss, like it was for many anti-gay citizens of India.
Today, New Delhi High Court (NDHC) passed a historic ruling suggesting that gay sex or homosexual sex in India is legal and stood validated against the right to freedom and equality as promised by the Indian Constitution. Well, first off it is India that we are talking about. A country that has more than 1.2 bn people population, third largest army in the world, sixth nuclear power, a country where 40% of its people still under the poverty line, a country which is really tortured by Kashmir issue and terrorists activity and has very strong religious and social values. Yes, we are talking about India.
For a british-accented English speaking population of 300 million, West is alluring. It’s diversely rich but fragmented society has more racism in itself than in any other part of the world. For this country, legalizing Gay sex is some hell of news. The ruling partying-Congress said it is for the judiciary to decide what they are going to do about this issue and it is not a political issue. While opposition and other parties are still divided over what their reactions would be on this new era of freedom. Read more here
India is home to more than 30 religions with honor of Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism starting in this country. So it is quite understandable normal day to day activities of a normal Indian would be affected in some way or another with any of the major religions in the country. On homosexuality however, religious foundations are divided and obviously, are still against it. Historically, religious group have fought hard against homo-sexuality. Be it US, India or any other country, religious groups seek shelter in the archaic religious foundations which are often mis-interpreted in the direction against homosexual people. This however isn’t true. Since this news came out (no pun intended) that India has legalized gay sex, I took time to educate myself on the relationship of homosexuality and religions in India
